PENANGITES welcomed the state’s budget 2018, especially the provisions for working mothers and senior citizens.

Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC) chief executive officer Ong Bee Leng said the child care assistance for working mothers is a form of recognition by the state for mothers who have to balance their time between work and family.

“We would like to thank the state government for providing this aid to working mothers.

“More importantly, we want to advocate fathers to be more involved in taking care of the family.

“Both husband and wife have to support one another in building a harmonious family,” she said.

Rose Charities Malaysia president Datuk Lawrence Cheah thanked the Penang government for increasing the payment for the senior citizen appreciation scheme.

“Although the amount might be small to some, it will definitely go a long way to help those who are less fortunate in society,” he said.

B. Prakash, 62, said he was happy with the increased aid for senior citizens.

“The chief minister took our welfare into consideration and we are grateful for that,” he said.

For working mom Elly Sosila Fariq, 34, the RM300 cash incentive was quite unexpected.

“This is a pleasant surprise,” she said.
