PENANG has the reputation of being the region’s food paradise, offering a diverse and exotic mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine, reflecting
the multi-cultural setting of the state.
The state is also recognized as having the “Best Street Food in Asia” by Time Magazine in 2004 and among the top 10 street food destination by
CNN in 2013.
The World Curry Festival is among the prominent festivals in Tourism Malaysia’s calendar of events in 2015.
“This time around, the 2nd World Curry Festival Penang Chapter will showcase internationally renowned chefs from the United Kingdom and
Pakistan,” Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said at the event’s gala dinner in conjunction with the seventh Penang International Halal Expo &
Conference 2016 on Jan 29.
Governor Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas graced the event. Among those present were exco for Religious Affairs, Domestic Trade & Consumer Affairs,
Datuk Abdul Malik Abu Kassim, exco for Tourism Development & Culture, Danny Law Heng Kiang, and founder of World Curry Limited, Zulfi
Karim.
Lim added that this year’s Penang chapter will witness new features in “Cooking School & Chef Table”, indicating that the event has succeeded
in generating a bigger platform for participants, industry players as well as the audience.
Meanwhile, Abdul Malik said since 2014, Bradford World Curry Festival has invited Penang to establish a partnership in its international
halal expo and conference.
“This has forged ties between Bradford (United Kingdom) and Penang (Malaysia) to boost tourism and the halal food industry sectors,” he added.
