THE ‘Durian Tourism Package’ campaign is back this year with the aim of boosting domestic tourism as well as contributing to the economic growth of the locals.
Organised by Tourism Malaysia, the campaign could not be held for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Tourism Malaysia director-general Datuk Zainuddin Abdul Wahab said the ‘Durian Tourism Package’ campaign, which comes with a 10% discount promotion, would be held until the end of next month (July 1-August 31).
“We hope it can help to stimulate the recovery of the tourism industry and contribute to the economic recovery of the country as well.
“We also would like to thank all the industry players for making this campaign a success, especially the tourism entrepreneurs for their input in developing the ‘Durian Tourism Package’,” Zainuddin said during the launching ceremony of the campaign at Hin Bus Depot on July 15.
Also present were Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan, Tourism Malaysia package development director Shahrin Mokhtar, Tourism Perak chief executive officer Nurmalis Musa,Kedah Tourism Sdn Bhd manager Nor Azlan Fitri Abdul Razak.
Zainuddin said Tourism Malaysia has collaborated with five tour operators to come up with the durian packages that include the elements of ecotourism, agro -tourism, archeotourism and extreme adventure tourism.
The five operators are KurmaTravel & Tours Sdn Bhd, Adventure360 Tours Sdn Bhd, Time Free Vacation Sdn Bhd, M. Maha-Izah Transport & Tours Sdn Bhd dan Asia Gateway Tours.
“The packages offered include 2 days 1 night package which starts from RM290 per person and 3 days 2 nights package which starts from RM388 per person.
“The reservation is for a minimum of four people per package.
“We are targeting at least for 50 packages to be sold throughout the campaign with an expected return of RM100,000,” he added.
Zainuddin Abdul Wahab also thanked the state government for being part of the programme.
During the launch, Lindsay Gasik and Robert Culclasure, the famous American ‘durian lover’ couple were also present to support the campaign.
It is learned that the duo, who are dubbed the durian experts, travel around the world to feast on the ‘king of fruits’ as well as explore unique places.
