PENANG Hill, a prominent tourist destination in the state, experienced a surge in visitor numbers during the Chinese New Year festive period.
Penang Hill Corporation (PHC) general manager Datuk Cheok Lay Leng said the Penang Hill funicular service recorded some 36,000 in ridership over the last four days (until Feb 13).
“During the weekend (Feb 10 and 11), over 16,500 people took the funicular to Penang Hill.
“These figures indicate positive trends in the tourism sector, showcasing a noteworthy recovery towards pre-Covid-19 levels,” he told Buletin Mutiara when contacted today.
Cheok said busloads of tourists and visitors thronged the hill during the holidays.
“The majority of tourists originated from China, with an additional presence of foreign workers seizing the opportunity to explore the hill during their days off.
“We have also received very positive feedback about our newly reopened Penang Hill Station and our customer service, which includes from a blogger who visited Penang Hill with her family on Monday morning (Feb 12).
“With an increased capacity accommodating over 700 visitors at a time, the Penang Hill Station stands as a beacon for both local and international tourists.
“Ultimately, we want visitors to appreciate Penang Hill and spend more quality time with their loved ones on the hill.
“The newly upgraded Penang Hill Station allows visitors to wait for their funicular comfortably. They can also enjoy the magnificent view of the hill while waiting for their ride.
“We strive to provide the best for the people by offering better facilities and comfort while conserving and preserving the environment,” Cheok said.
He also appealed to the public to take good care of the facilities on the hill.
“We encourage visitors to recognise that the lift at Penang Hill Station is primarily designated for individuals with wheelchairs and those in need. Your understanding and cooperation are greatly appreciated.
“We have escalators to cater to the visitors,” he said.
Cheok highlighted that the improved facilities and increased visitor numbers have significantly contributed to the thriving business environment on the hill.
