EIGHT teams are set to compete in the Moey Yok Ham Cup 2023 this weekend, with the group matches taking place at Universiti Sains Malaysia tomorrow (8.30am to 5pm), and the semi-finals and finals scheduled for Dec 17 (Sunday, from 2.30pm to 5.15pm) at the Chinese Recreation Club.
The teams are divided into two groups. Defending champions Perak Chinese Recreation Club headline Group A, alongside Selangor CRC, Lagenda FC (Melaka), and FTC (KL). Group B comprises hosts Penang CRC, Hua Ren RA (KL), JBCFA (Johor) and KCFA (Kedah).
Following a round-robin league in the preliminary round, the top two teams from each group will proceed to the cross-over semi-finals, with the winners progressing to the final.
The tournament honours the memory of Yok Ham, fondly known as Uncle Moey among fans and players, for his contribution to football as a player and later a coach in the 70s to 90s. He used to spend countless days at the Penang Chinese Recreation Club, considering it like his second home.
The participating teams are as follows:
Group A: Perak CRC, Selangor CRC, Lagenda FC (Melaka), and FTC (KL); Group B: Hua Ren RA (KL), Penang CRC, JBCFA (Johor), KCFA (Kedah).
