THE hawkers at TPS Jelutong Food Court have praised the swift action taken by the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) in rebuilding the food court after it was destroyed in a fire on January 5 this year.
It is learned that the food court was rebuilt by the MBPP at a cost of RM500,000 within two months.
Idris Abdullah, 57, the owner of ‘Idris Kopi Station,’ who has been operating his business at TPS Jelutong Food Court for more than 30 years, expressed his satisfaction with the newly-built food court.
“Our business operation was halted after the fire incident, yet we are happy that the food court was reconstructed within two months.
“The stall owners here also received some contributions from Jelutong assemblyman Lim Siew Khim and Jelutong MP RSN Rayer,” he told Buletin Mutiara today.
Another stall owner, Mohd Faisal, 45, said that he was running his business at a cafeteria while waiting for the completion of the food court.
“We are happy because the food court was rebuilt very quickly. For the stall operators here, it is their livelihood.
“Thank you to the council for their prompt action,” Faisal, who owns the ‘Adik Abang Stall,’ added.
Meanwhile, Kim Lin Chuan, who has been selling Chinese noodles at the food court for over 10 years, raised concerns regarding the need for additional shade.
“YB Lim said she will look into the matter,” Kim added.
The owner of a beverages stall at the food court, who wished to remain anonymous, also praised the excellent work done by the MBPP.
TPS Jelutong Food Court consists of a total of 16 hawker stalls, with 10 halal stalls and the remaining stalls serving non-halal food.
