PERAK Road Market will stay put at its present location after a discussion was made with the affected traders.
Batu Lancang assemblyman Ong Ah Teong told a press conference today that the traders objected to the proposal to relocate the market next to Perak Road fire and rescue station.
“For everyone’s information, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) is now waiting for the Request For Proposal (RFP) from interested parties pertaining to the upgrading of the market.
“Interested parties may submit their RFP to the council by the closing date on April 8.
“After receiving the proposals, MBPP may look into more processes regarding the upgrading the Perak Road Market,” Ong said.
Earlier in the morning, Ong, Jelutong MP R.S.N Rayer and their team members handed out Mandarin oranges to market-goers at the Perak Road Market in conjunction with the Chinese New Year celebration.
The market-goers were delighted with their gesture while wishing them “Happy Chinese New Year” too.
Rayer also invited the public to join the Batu Lancang Chinese New Year open house at Batu Lancang Market car park on Feb 10 from 7pm to make the event merrier.
