A TOTAL of 23 teams with nearly 300 players will take part in the Penang Factories Badminton Team Master Open Championships at the MBPP Relau Sports Complex from Nov 13-18.
The men’s competition has attracted 16 teams while the women’s competition has attracted seven teams. They come from 16 factories namely; Keysight Technologies, Agilent Technologies, Intel, Broadcom, B. Braun, Motorola Solutions, Jabil, Robert Bosch, Lumileds, Dell, Western Digital, Plexus, Osram, Cypress, PixArt Imaging and SAM.
State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee was impressed with the response for the competition. Each tie consists of five doubles with each player allowed to play in only one doubles match.
“We would like to ensure this Penang Factories Badminton Team Master Open Championships becomes one of the key annual events under the Penang State Youth and Sports initiative,” Soon said during the press conference at Lot 33 Prangin Mall recently.
The men’s and women’s champion teams will receive team trophy, players’ medal, Gosen racquet worth RM220, Chaopai badminton bag worth RM150 and Mystery Village restaurant drink voucher. The men’s runners-up and losing semi-finalists, and women’s runners-up will also receive prizes.
GP Sport Event Management is the event organiser while BCN Industrial Supply is the main sponsor. Co-sponsors include Red One, Osel Group, Great Promotions, Outdoor Solutions, Chaopai, Mystery Village, TaiPex, RedBull, Yomax Sdn Bhd and Buona Fortuna.
The groupings:
Men: Group A – Dell, Agilent, SAM, PixArt Imaging; Group B – Intel, Motorola Solutions, Cypress, Osram; Group C – Plexus, B. Braun, Western Digital, Robert Bosch; Group D – Broadcom, Jabil, Lumileds, Keysight Technologies.
Women: Group W – Intel, Motorola, Agilent, Jabil; Group Y – B. Braun, Robert Bosch, Western Digital.
Badminton fans are also in for exciting matches when JKKK Pykett Avenue holds the Padang Kota Cup 2018 on Nov 10 & 11.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow’s special assistant Johnny Chee, who represented Chow at the press conference, said ex-national players like Ong Ewe Hock, Kuan Beng Hong, James Chua and many others would be participating in the Padang Kota Cup competition while 1992 Thomas Cup winning member, Foo Kok Keong, would be taking part in an exhibition match.
