STATE Welfare and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh lauded two manufacturing companies, GB Plas Sdn Bhd and Unicorn Industry (M) Sdn Bhd, for coming forward to donate diapers for bedridden patients.
Phee said the companies would be supplying a total of 28,000 pieces of diapers monthly for distribution to the deserving patients in each constituency.
“The state Social Welfare Department will provide the list of those bedridden patients to the respective assemblymen. They (assemblymen) will help to distribute the diapers.
“We would like to commend the companies for their thoughtful gestures,” said Phee after receiving the diapers from the representatives of both the companies today.
GB Plas Sdn Bhd was represented by its managing director Gooi Chin Hooi and Unicorn Industry (M) Sdn Bhd was represented by its managing director Song Wei Ming.
Phee added that the companies have committed themselves to the ‘adoption programme’ of the bedridden patients for a period of one year.
He said after one year, it (adoption programme) would be reviewed.
Phee also encouraged other companies to also take part in the adoption programme to help more needy patients.
“On average a bedridden patient would need at least three to four diapers per day. So, through the supply of the diapers, it will help to reduce their burden financially.
“We hope that other companies will also join this programme as part of their corporate social responsibility programme.
“These two companies earlier have approached Jawi assemblyman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye to convey their desire of helping the bedridden patients through this adoption programme,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gooi and Song said they were happy to give back to the society through the programme.
H’ng was also present during the diapers handover ceremony.
