Two private hospitals in Penang identified to take part in Covid-19 vaccination, says CM

THE Penang government today announced that two private hospitals had been identified in the state to take part in the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.

Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the offer by private healthcare facilities to manage the vaccine was raised during a recent stakeholders’ meeting with Science and Technology Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

“The intention by the private medical practitioners to take part in the vaccination plan had already been brought up to the minister, and he’s well aware of it,” he said during the opening of the new office and launching of the Digital Transformation Masterplan at Wisma Yeap Chor Ee in George Town today.

Chow also said that the proposals were warmly welcomed by the minister and they would soon be making an announcement.

“Let us all wait for the official announcement by the Federal Government,” he added.

On a separate matter, Chow said the Penang government would be looking into the recently published news by an English daily on a heritage bungalow that was once owned by the late and former Malaysia’s first Prime Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman.

According to reports published, it was stated that the property is now up for sale for RM62 million.

When asked by a reporter on whether the state government would look into the possibility of acquiring the property to turn it into a museum, Chow said the state would look into it.

“Tunku Abdul Rahman is a national legend, and his legacy should be protected.

“We hope the Federal Government will take note of this issue too, but as for state-level, we will look closely into it now to understand the scenario better,” he added.
