Unifying students through integrity programme

SOME 350 students from four schools in Air Itam participated in the Students’ Integrity Programme (RIMUP), which was held in the school compound of Sekolah Kebangsaan Ayer Itam today.

The students were from SJK(C) Sin Kang, SK Sri Aman, SJK (C) Chiao Nan and SK Air Itam.

Air Itam assemblyman Joseph Ng Soon Siang said he hoped the programme would act as a good platform for students to interact, respect and show their love for one another.

“It is also an opportunity for students from Kampung Melayu, Farlim, Air Itam and Padang Tembak communities to understand and appreciate different religious backgrounds,” Ng said when he launched the programme.

Also joining Ng at the function were SK Ayer Itam headmaster Zamzuri Abd Rahman and Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh.

Ng said they planned to hold a bigger RIMUP programme next year, with 10 schools taking part.

“The event is also in line with the spirit of ‘Sayangi Malaysiaku’ which is to commemorate the recent 62th Merdeka celebrations,” Ng said.

Zamzuri said school management should instil in students the love of interacting with other students.

“Integration programmes, like RIMUP, should be arranged to involve all students, teachers and parents to boost education and unity,” he added.

At the gathering, the students received a mini Jalur Gemilang, some cookies and a bottle of mineral water each.
