UNITY is the cornerstone of a strong party, enabling it to carry out its duties with a spirit of togetherness, said Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
Chow, the former state DAP chairman, emphasised that unity strengthens the party both internally and externally.
“If internal conflicts arise, they will negatively impact the performance of both the party and the state government,” Chow warned.
He expressed these views during the Penang DAP engagement session held at Kompleks Pasar Awam Dan Penjaja Taman Terubong Jaya today.
During the session, Bukit Mertajam MP and current state DAP chairman Steven Sim outlined the new committee’s approach, stressing internal strength and external impact.
“We are committed to listening to grassroots voices and enhancing communication channels within the party.
“Although there are no DAP representatives (assemblymen) in the Bayan Baru and Balik Pulau parliamentary constituencies, we will ensure that no Parliamentary Liaison Committees (PLCs) are overlooked,” he said.
Sim also serves as the Human Resources Minister.
The engagement session included representatives from the Bukit Gelugor, Bayan Baru, and Balik Pulau PLCs.
Chow, having passed on his role as state party chairman to Sim, told attendees that he would not interfere with Sim’s duties.
“I will offer advice when needed and maintain a positive relationship with the committee and leadership.
“A strong bond between the party and the government is essential for the state to move forward,” he said.
Chow also stressed the need for the state government to prioritise economic growth, social welfare, and the well-being of Penangites.
“As Chief Minister, I am committed to ensuring robust economic performance, attracting investments, and creating job opportunities.
“Additionally, I will focus on launching and completing key infrastructure projects that benefit our people.
“We must also work to improve the welfare and quality of life for Penangites,” Chow concluded.
