FOSTERING young people’s engagement in politics is crucial for both their personal growth and the future progress of society, emphasised the Penang Youth, Sports, and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi.
Gooi, a former participant in the Youth Assembly, commended the ongoing efforts of the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) since 2015 in organising such initiatives.
“Aligned with the Penang government’s commitment to empowering the youths, this platform serves as a vital means to unlock their potential in engaging debates on diverse community issues.
“The state, represented by PYDC, is dedicated to ensuring the sustainability of this platform for the benefit of our young citizens.
“As of now, 223 youths have actively participated in the Youth Assembly, with a significant number subsequently engaging in politics and taking up roles as councillors in local authorities,” he said in his speech during the launch of the 2022 & 2023 Youth Assembly Book in George Town yesterday (Dec 20).
In the 82-page book, Gooi emphasised the contribution of youths in community development.
“May our youth persist in showcasing their best selves in the times ahead.
“The state is unwavering in its commitment to actively listen to their insights, striving for continuous improvement and progress in Penang,” he added.
PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling expressed high regard for the Youth Assembly.
“We aspire that the release of this book will offer the public valuable insights into the significance of the Youth Assembly,” she remarked.
Among those present were Pengkalan Kota assemblyman Wong Yuee Harng, and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) councillor Benji Ang.
