THE upcoming 7th Penang International Science Fair (PISF) is set to have the largest number of workshop slots in the world during its two-day event.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said that over 20,000 slots from more than 50 hands-on workshops would be available for students to take part.
“This is truly a unique event. Many companies are participating in the event to showcase the technology behind their products.
“Some companies are also empowering students to run workshops for them instead of using their own employees. This is in line with the theme of the event ‘Empowering the Next Generation!’.
“Participating schools will also be setting up their own booths to run workshops for other students,” he told a press conference at his office in Komtar today.
The PISF 2018 will be held from 9am to 6pm at Setia SPICE on Nov 10 and 11.
Chow said that students could also take part in nine exciting competitions, such as in robotics, mobile apps and software coding, during the fair.
“The total cost of the science fair is RM600,000 excluding the cost of exhibits brought in by the various exhibitors.
“The fair is sponsored by various multinational corporations, local enterprises and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC). The Penang government is the venue sponsor,” Chow said.
Penang Science Cluster chief executive officer Ooi Peng Ee said that they expected a crowd of 60,000 visitors thronging the PISF 2018, making it the largest international science and technology fair in the country.
