A SAFER and more conducive basketball court is now open for residents of Taman Gamelan Indah in Bukit Tambun for their recreational activities.
The basketball court at Taman Gamelan Indah has been upgraded into a sheltered facility at a cost of RM528,957.
The investment encompasses various enhancements, including upgraded basketball flooring, electrical wiring, installation of floodlights, gates and other essential amenities.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who is also Batu Kawan MP, said the cost for the project is borne by the state government.
“This basketball court project was carried out based on the residents’ request.
“Before embarking on any sports facility upgrades, the state government conducts an engagement session with the local community to understand their specific needs and preferences.
“Thus, with the completion of this new upgraded basketball court at Taman Gamelan Indah, we hope it will not only foster a healthy community here but also spur interest, especially among the youths, in sports.
“I also hope that the residents here will take good care of this facility and fully utilise it,” Chow said when visiting the basketball court today.
Also present were Penang Local Government, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jason H’ng Mooi Lye, Bukit Tambun assemblyman Goh Choon Aik, Seberang Perai City Council (MBSP) mayor Datuk Azhar Arshad and Chow’s political secretary Lau Keng Ee.
