THE Penang government has allocated RM500,000 to upgrade the Taman Free School housing scheme this year, state Local Government, Housing, Town and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo said.
He said that the works comprised upgrading the bulk trash facility, replacing the roof of the public hall, replacing old reticulation water pipes (Block KD, KE, KF, KG, KH, and KJ), and replacing the damaged utility doors and trash doors.
“The upgrading works are expected to be completed by year-end,” he told a press conference today.
Jagdeep said RM489,690.27 had been spent by the state to maintain and improve the Taman Free School housing scheme from 2018 to 2020.
“It is our commitment to help all types of housing schemes in Penang,” he said.
Jagdeep added that the Penang government had spent almost RM267 million (as of March this year) on maintaining public and private housing projects in the state.
On a separate matter, Jagdeep urged the public to continue complying to the standard operating procedures (SOPs).
“The compliance rate in Penang is still high – 99.6% on the island and 99.38% on the mainland,” he said.
Jagdeep also said that 444,185 people in Penang had registered for the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme as of March 21.
“A total of 28,644 in Penang have been vaccinated as of March 21,” he said.
Jagdeep and his team also distributed food packets to the senior citizens after the media conference.
