SOME 6,000 people ushered in the new year at Kompleks Bukit Jambul (KBJ) at the stroke of midnight on Dec 31.
This is the third year KBJ welcomed the new year in grandeur, which generated a very festive atmosphere for all present.
The celebration kicked off with a performance by Superband, a four-piece local band with their wide repertoire of English oldies together
with pop, Hindi, Mandarin and Spanish songs.
The party mood was further heightened by the performance of the new year L.E.D Dance performance, where the performers with their energetic and
illuminated costumes rocked the stage and set the mood for a great show. A dinner was hosted by the Joint Management Board (JMB) of the
complex in which its chairman, K.H. Chan, and his staff dined with Deputy Chief Minister 1 Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Consul-General of the
Republic of Indonesia, Taufiq Rodhy, Consul-General of Pakistan, Datuk Abdul Rafique Abdul Karim, Honorary Consul-General of the
Republic of Poland, Datuk Suppiah Manikam, Datuk Dr Saduruddin Gulam Husen of the Mydin chain and other dignitaries.
While dining, guests were entertained by popular South Korea K-Pop group, Laysha, petite Malaysian singer cum songwriter, Eunice Hoo, and
a four-piece talented young musical group called Paperplane Pursuit. As midnight, Chan approached, JMB members and guests together with the
artistes were on stage for the countdown, and as the clock struck 12, cheers of “Happy New Year” filled the air with everyone singing “Auld Lang
Syne” and wishes of the new year for all. The sky burst with a great formation of fireworks.
