ABOUT 3,900 individuals at the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) Engineering Campus in Nibong Tebal are set to benefit from a RM6.15 million water infrastructure upgrade.
Deputy Minister of Works Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced the project, which is expected to be completed by July 30.
“The staff and students at USM will benefit from this project, having faced low water pressure for the past 10 years.
“Upon completion, the low water pressure issue will be resolved.
“The initial target completion date was Aug 26, but the project is nearing completion ahead of schedule.
“We now expect it to be finished 26 days early,” he told reporters while inspecting the project today.
Ahmad Maslan detailed that the project includes constructing a 1.597 million-litre water tank, a pump house, and other necessary infrastructure.
“The Glass Fused Steel tank measures 30 metres in length.
“The project is now 83% complete, which is 0.5% ahead of schedule,” he added.
He also noted that the new water tank would ensure continuous water supply for the campus, even in the event of a two-day water cut.
“We thank the appointed contractor and relevant authorities for their swift action in executing this project,” he said.
Also present at the press conference were state Infrastructure, Transport, and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, and Works Ministry staff.
