THE Covid-19 vaccination centre (PPV) in Vangohh Eminent Hotel in Machang Bubuk has officially ended its operations today.

As announced previously by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, all the PPVs in Penang will only operate until October 31 and after this date, those who wish to receive their Covid-19 vaccination will be referred to different medical facilities or institutions.

Chow, who attended the closing ceremony of the PPV in Vangohh Eminent Hotel today, said the PPV managed to administer close to 100,000 doses of vaccines since it began operations in August, mainly focusing on central Seberang Perai district.

“This figures would not be possible without the concerted efforts from everyone including the medical staff, volunteers, private companies and various non-governmental organisations (NGOs) such as Jishan Charity Bukit Mertajam which played its part to help this PPV operate smoothly.

“Thus, I would like to thank each and everyone of them and hopefully such effort will continue in the future for another programme,” Chow said in his speech at the event.

Chow also shared that the first dose vaccination rate for the adult population in Penang is now at 101.4% and those with two doses are at 98.9%, as of Oct 30, according to statistics on the Covidnow website.

“Although, we have reached more than 100% for the first dose vaccination rate, we should not be too happy as the Covid-19 is still here with us.

“The Covid-19 infection is real and it is very painful. Thus, we should not take the Covid-19 situation for granted.

“Do not let our guard down and continue to heed the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to curb the spread of the deadly virus among our community,” he added.

Also present were state Social Development and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Chong Eng, state Agrotech and Food Security, Rural Development and Health Committee chairman Dr Norlela Ariffin, Machang Bubuk assemblyman Lee Khai Loon, Berapit assemblyman Heng Lee Lee and Jishan Charity Bukit Mertajam chairman Datuk Tan Kok Aun.
