SEVERAL voluntary fire brigades (PBS) have been actively making their rounds to help refill the static water tanks for residents still affected by the water disruption since the replacement of two valves at the Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant.
Highrises in some areas, such as Paya Terubong and Bayan Lepas, have yet to receive water supply. While some residents on the ground floor and in landed houses have started receiving water, there are reports of low pressure.
Taking their own initiative, four councillors from the Penang Island City Council (MBPP) – Mohd Faruk Abdul Rahman, Bakar Noordin, Saiful Azwan Abdul Malik and Mohd Hafiz Abdul Aziz – have secured a small lorry containing water tanks to assist in distributing water to those living in the villages and hilly areas where water tankers may not able to reach.
This morning, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow conducted visits to three locations to assess the water supply situation. The areas inspected include Taman Alor Vista and Lebuh Relau 7 in Paya Terubong, and Taman Sri Bayu Flats in Bayan Lepas.
Paya Terubong assemblyman Wong Hon Wai, Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh and Bayan Lepas assemblyman Azrul Mahathir Aziz were also actively on-site to evaluate the current condition. Also present at Taman Sri Bayu Flats were state executive councillors Zairil Khir Johari and Jason H’ng Mooi Lye.
Azrul expressed gratitude to PBAPP for installing four static tanks and acknowledged the presence of three jumbo tankers in Bayan Lepas. He mentioned that he has sought the assistance of PBAPP in refilling some of the depleted tanks.
