AS the world prepares to celebrate International Labour Day on May 1 this year, Penangites have the opportunity to participate in a walk to commemorate the hard work and dedication of workers while paying homage to the rich heritage of Air Itam.
Organised by the Air Putih service centre, the walk, which will be held on May 1, promises to be an engaging and meaningful event for participants of all ages.
Air Putih assemblyman Lim Guan Eng said this year’s walk would be a testament to the commitment and determination that workers from all divides have displayed to the growth of Penang.
The walk will feature a 3km walk up the Air Itam Hill from the base of Kek Lok Si, followed by festivities up at the Air Itam Dam.
Participants can look forward to experiencing the beauty of the Air Itam trail while forging meaningful connections with fellow walkers.
Event organising chairman Lum Chia How said this year’s walk would be special as it will enable the walkers to connect with nature, celebrate the spirit of Penang and reflect on the invaluable contributions of workers across various industries.
“The Air Itam trail holds significant historical and cultural significance, serving as a testament to Penang’s diverse heritage and natural beauty.
“Through this event, participants will not only embark on a memorable walk but also gain insights into the rich tapestry of stories that have shaped the region’s identity over the years,” he said during the press conference at the Air Putih service centre in Air Itam today.
Registration for early birds starts at RM20 per participant, which officially starts today until April 10.
After the said date, a fee of RM25 will be charged for each individual.
