CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow today advised Penangites to ensure they are fit enough and have aplenty of warmup sessions before proceeding to strenuous exercises.
He pointed out there had been about three reported incidents whereby people had collapsed and passed out when exercising or even climbing the hill over the past few weeks.
“I’m saddened by these unfortunate incidents that took place after outdoor activities were allowed recently. It is pity and sad to see such incidents.
“The overexertion had caused them to collapse as they had not exercised for quite a while.
“Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to urge everyone to be careful and make sure they are fit enough before taking part in any exercises.
“This serves as a reminder for everyone to take extra precaution by taking care their body and have a medical checkup if they feel unwell.
“We do not want to lose any Penangite in this way,” he told Buletin Mutiara after joining in the Zumba and Line Dance at Taman Kejiranan Karpal Singh in Island Glades neighbourhood today.
Chow took about 30 minutes to participate in both activities and mingled around with those present.
He was delighted that the residents in the residential area could have a chance to engage among themselves again after months of partial lockdown.
“This is an opportunity for the local folk to come out and be part of the community,” Chow added.
Seri Delima assemblyman Syerleena Abdul Rashid, who was also present, told Buletin Mutiara that the activities taken place in her constituency were following standard operating procedure (SOP).
“They need to follow the usual SOP before taking part in the activities.
“We still have to be cautious and follow all the regulations imposed by the authorities,” she added.
After joining the Zumba and line dance, Chow and his entourage then proceeded to the nearby Japanese Garden in Jalan Mas.
He had a walk around the park accompanied by Syerleena and Island Park Village Community Management Council (MPKK) chairman Dr Tan Seang Aun before posing for a photo with a few akido exponents.
