NESTLED in the vibrant Chulia Street, lies Warna Cuisine, a hidden gem offering a colourful blend of Malaysian and Moroccan-inspired dishes.
Owner of the restaurant, Firdaus Shabudin, a 39-year-old Penangite, who has spent 15 years in the hotel industry as an operations manager, had always dreamed of opening his own food and beverage (F&B) establishment.
“I have been wanting to venture into the F&B industry for a long time.
“My background in hotel operations, including events and services, helped shape the concept of this restaurant,” Firdaus shared during an interview session with Buletin Mutiara today.
He further explained the inspiration for Warna Cuisine came during a trip to Istanbul, Turkey.
“I was captivated by the local food scene there.
“So, when I returned to Malaysia, I planned to open a restaurant that could bring some of that exotic flair to Penang,” he explained.
Warna Cuisine officially opened its doors in July this year and quickly distinguished itself from other eateries in the area.
The restaurant’s interior is adorned with a striking combination of turquoise and orange colours.
“These are my favourite colours and they also symbolise the vibrant spirit of Morocco, which aligns with our culinary theme,” Firdaus revealed.
The restaurant boasts over 20 menu items, with signature main courses like Mandi Chicken Drumstick, Kabsa Chicken Drumstick, Mandi Lamb, Kabsa Lamb, Kofta Cheese, Kofta Blue Cheese, Moroccan Meatball, as well as various Tagine dishes featuring lamb, chicken, vegetables, and seafood. Alongside these hearty meals, Warna Cuisine also offers a wide range of salads, snacks, soups, and appetisers to cater to different tastes.
“We have customised our Moroccan dishes to suit the local palate.
“There aren’t many Moroccan food options available in Malaysia, especially in Penang, so we wanted to introduce something different while making it accessible for everyone,” Firdaus noted.
The two-story restaurant also offers a comfortable dining experience, with the upper floor able to accommodate up to 40 guests.
“It’s quite spacious, and we also accept reservations for special gatherings,” Firdaus mentioned.
He added that the restaurant has been well-received by both locals and tourists alike.
“The response so far has been very encouraging. We see a mix of customers from both the local community and visitors from abroad,” he said.
Firdaus also shared about his expansion plan.
“Our goal is to expand the business by opening one or two more branches in Penang,” he said.
Beyond the restaurant, Firdaus also manages a food stall in Tanjung Bungah, which focuses on shawarma and pizzas.
