A TOTAL of 1,850 runners became strong advocates for cancer patients and survivors when they took part in the Warriors in Purple 2019 Night Run here.
The event, hosted by Gleneagles Penang, was held to mark the National Cancer Survivors Day.
The runners gathered at the Esplanade at around 6.30pm, before being flagged off by Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.
They passed by Armenian Street, Light Street and Farquhar Street before they returned to the Esplanade.
Gleneagles Penang chief operating officer Yong Zi Ling had said that the word ‘warrior’ symbolised the brave people who have fought, and who are still fighting cancer.
She had also said that the 7km cancer awareness run was to celebrate all cancer survivors.
Chow stressed the need to raise awareness on the importance of early detection.
He also praised the participants for taking part in the run.
“The unwaivering support is excellent.
“Let this also be a strong start for us to lead a healthy lifestyle,” he said today.
Later, Chow joined the zumba dance and then proceeded to have his blood pressure and glucose levels checked at the health screening booths.
