A MOBILE health screening unit will be deployed to ensure healthcare accessibility for all in Penang soon.
This unit, housed in a truck, will deliver health education and screenings wherever needed.
State Youth, Sports and Health Committee chairman Daniel Gooi lauded the collaboration between the Lions Club of George Town City and Penang Adventist Hospital (PAH) for their initiative known as ‘WAW on Wheels.’
“It is a great initiative to raise health awareness among local communities, schools, rural areas, and through road shows. We aim to effectively reduce non-communicable diseases among the people.
“This programme is going to change and impact the lives of many by enhancing healthcare for underprivileged and remote communities.
“‘WAW on Wheels’ will directly provide healthcare access to these target groups by deploying a mobile health screening unit,” said Gooi after witnessing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the Lions Club of George Town City and Penang Adventist Hospital.
Gooi said he looked forward to the realisation of this initiative which would greatly assist Penangites.
He commended the efforts of everyone involved in making this programme possible.
PAH chief executive officer Albin Phua stressed the importance of health education in enhancing community awareness of healthcare.
“We aim to provide equal healthcare services to all segments of the population,” he said.
Among those present were Lions Club of George Town City organising chairman Datin Chang Yinn Ping, and Lions Club of George Town City presiding officer Stephanie Ooi.
Meanwhile, Gooi responded positively to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s initiative to improve the Bayan Lepas health clinic.
“Further details will be made after the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration,” he said, adding the urgent need to upgrade the health facilities at Bayan Lepas health clinic.
