THE second edition of the ‘We Care You Education Fair’ was a success when hundreds of students and school leavers thronged the two-day education fair held at the Butterworth Arena last weekend.
It was organised by the Penang government, through the Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC).
School student Rubentran Kumaradeva, who was among the early visitors to the education fair, said he attended the fair to know more about study options after completing his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination this year.
“I am interested to pursue a business course. I am glad to see that they are many education institutions here offering the course that I wanted,” said Rubentran, a student of SMK Tun Hussein Onn in Seberang Jaya.
Fellow student Veithess Siva said that the education fair was a great platform for him to also apply for scholarships provided by various education institutions during the two-day event.
“I also will know which course and institution are the best for me when I decide to further my studies later.
“So far, I am interested in furthering my studies at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and pursuing a sports science course.
“Hopefully, I can find a scholarship for me to do so,” he said.
PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling, in her speech, said the education fair has several objectives.
“Among the objectives is to provide a proper venue for students to survey colleges and universities that offer courses at the tertiary education level.
“We also want to expose students to relevant information and requirements needed to enter their desired education institutions.
“Thus, it is hoped that the youths who attended the two-day education fair will gain a lot of benefits from this platform,” she said.
The ‘We Care You Education Fair’ was also officiated by Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying.
Hui Ying, in her speech, commended PYDC for such an initiative.
“As we know, an education fair like this is a really effective and helpful initiative to help our youths in looking for opportunities in higher education.
“Through this fair, we also hope to inspire and empower our students to pursue their dreams and aspirations, and to equip them with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
“We also hope to strengthen the partnerships between our higher education institutions and industry, and to foster a culture of lifelong learning and innovation.
“I also hope that PYDC can make this education fair as an annual event as it provides a huge benefit to the students,” she said.
Also present during the launching ceremony were state Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee and Bagan MP Lim Guan Eng.
