THE recent 8th annual Women in Science (WiZ) programme, held at Tech Dome Penang, aimed to encourage greater participation of female students in the field of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).
Tech Dome senior marketing and communications manager Oun Sui Leng praised the success of the one-day event and looks forward to a similar gathering next year.
“We aspire to cultivate the interest of the young minds in STEM. While interest has increased among them, we aim to further enhance their enthusiasm.
“We envision more aspiring students taking part in STEM. Through this initiative, they can valuable insights into the field,” she said when contacted.
The programme, held at Tech Dome, welcomed 250 students from six schools, namely SMK Bukit Gambir, SMK Bukit Jambul, SMJK Convent Datuk Keramat, SMJK Perempuan China, and SMJK Tinggi BM.
WiZ was an initiative by Tech Dome Penang and the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PDC) with the support of the IEM Women Engineers Section.
Oun noted the participation ratio of women in STEM has risen to approximately 87%.
“This is a very encouraging response, and we hope to sustain this achievement,” she said, expressing her gratitude to the state for prioritising STEM education.
