ART lovers can visit the Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah in Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) to appreciate the artwork of 77 international women artists from now until Oct 26.
State Tourism Development, Arts, Culture and Heritage Committee chairman Yeoh Soon Hin said women artists have grown into a dynamic force to be reckoned with.
“The artists and their art have created a new chapter in the art history,” he said in his speech during the opening ceremony of the 11th Thailand-Malaysia International Women Artists Art Exhibition 2019 at Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah on September 11.
Yeoh commended the gallery and USM for their initiative in hosting the exhibition.
“These artists come together to showcase their works, and foster better understanding in Eastern and Western art,” he said.
The artists were from Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, Myanmar, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea, Mongolia, Norway, Scotland, UK and United States.
Among those present were Centre for Research on Women and Gender (Kanita) director Prof Dr Noraida Endut, Muzium & Galeri Tuanku Fauziah director Zolkurnian Hassan and the representative of the participating artists Rosalynn Teoh.
“Under the helmsmanship of Zolkurnian, the gallery is now very active in promoting art and culture,” Yeoh said.
The exhibition is open from 9am to 5pm. Admission is free.
