A TOTAL of 46 women entrepreneurs who participated in the Penang Women Entrepreneur Mentoring Programme (PENMentor) 5.0 were recently recognised for their achievements, receiving certificates and special accolades.
The event, organised by the Penang Women’s Development Corporation (PWDC), took place on Feb 23 at Hotel Seri Malaysia in Bayan Baru.

Several key state representatives attended the event, including state Social Development, Welfare, and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim and PWDC chief executive officer Datuk Ong Bee Leng.
Launched in November last year, the PENMentor programme aims to provide women entrepreneurs with the platform and guidance needed to expand their networks and connect with industry leaders.
Ong expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the two leads and 10 dedicated mentors, highlighting their significant role in guiding the entrepreneurs toward success.

“I strongly believe that women’s empowerment is crucial in driving economic growth and community development.
“Women possess immense potential, creativity, and extraordinary talent.
“However, many face obstacles that hinder their progress and aspirations, such as limited business funding, a lack of networking opportunities, and insufficient guidance or industry knowledge.
“This is why PENMentor plays a vital role as it provides women with the resources and mentorship needed to grow, connect, and carve a path toward achieving their dreams,” Ong said in her speech.

Meanwhile, Lim reaffirmed the state government’s goal of having 40% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Penang owned by women entrepreneurs by 2030.
“Achieving this ambitious target will require the participation of approximately 100,000 women entrepreneurs,” she said.
With initiatives like PENMentor, Penang continues to foster a thriving ecosystem where women entrepreneurs can flourish, contribute to the economy, and impact their communities.
