THE national DAP selection committee will be meeting this Sunday to finalise the candidates for the coming Penang state election, Penang DAP chairman Chow Kon Yeow said.
Chow, who is also the caretaker Chief Minister, said there are women candidates being proposed in the candidate list which was submitted to the party at the national level for its consideration.
“There are women candidates being proposed in the list but it might not be enough to meet the 30% women representation in the Penang Legislative Assembly,” he told a media conference at Setia SPICE Convention Centre today.
“We can consider revisiting the proposal (TWOAS initiative) as the party has some reservations,” Chow added.
The TWOAS (Top-Up Women-Only Additional Seats) initiative was introduced by the state government to ensure that there are 30% of women representation in the State Legislative Assembly.
