CHIEF Minister Chow Kon Yeow expressed his sincere appreciation to the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (Penang branch) and all the engineers who have immensely contributed towards Penang becoming a centre of engineering excellence for the regional and global community.

On a night full of excitement, good food and heartwarming music band performances, IEM celebrated its 55th anniversary in grand style.

The Setia SPICE Convention Centre in Bayan Lepas was in an electric mood and full attendance.

“All of us who are here this evening greatly acknowledge the contributions of our engineers across different engineering disciplines in our industrialisation journey thus far.

“The Penang government will continue to honour our pledge to support our engineers, especially their involvement in various state government standing committees, portfolios and institutions.

“We value your opinions and recommendations, and we want the voice of the engineers to be heard and adopted for the sake of Penang’s future development.

“We also want our engineers to spearhead the state infrastructure and engineering projects to ensure successful completion,” Chow said in his speech during the IEM’s 55th anniversary celebration at Setia SPICE Convention Centre today.

Relatively, he also highlighted the importance of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) talent development to keep Penang competitive in the industrialisation journey down the road.

Among others present during the event were state Transport and Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari, Penang Island City Council (MBPP) mayor Datuk Yew Tung Seang and MBPP secretary Datuk A. Rajendran.
