Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge returns for the second time

THE Penang government today announced the Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge 2021 for the second year running, and this time around, the participants are required to submit a comprehensive business plan report.

 

State Youth and Sports Committee chairman Soon Lip Chee said the programme this year is aimed to provide a platform for youth who are keen on entrepreneurship and innovation to share their entrepreneurial ideas that will bring transformation into the world we are living in today.

 

The event is organised by Penang Youth Development Corporation (PYDC) and jointly collaborated with the Malay Businessmen and Industrialists Association of Malaysia, Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce Young Entrepreneur Section (PCCC YES) and the Malaysian Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

“As part of YEC 2021, PYDC will also conduct three workshops that will offer guidance to the participants in preparing a complete and comprehensive business plan report.

 

“The state government, through PYDC, would also roll out an Incubator Programme under YEC 2021, where participants will gain insights and get closer to realising their dreams of building businesses,” Soon said during a press conference in Komtar today.

 

The registration for the programme is open from today till May 31 this year. It is open for youth aged 17 to 35 years old, and who are currently studying, working or staying in Penang.

 

To participate, participants need to form a team of two to five members. The submission deadline for the business plan report is July 31 this year. The registration fee is RM100 per team, and it includes goodie bags, certificates and access to all the workshops.

 

Meanwhile Soon also hoped that this year’s programme would double the success that was achieved last year, where 19 teams consisting of 64 youths participated in it.

“It is vital for the state government and related industry players to work together to boost and empower youth entrepreneurship in the state.

 

“I would like to urge all the youth in Penang to participate in this programme. It will help turn your entrepreneurial skills into realities to tackle problems like education social issues, climate change and many others.

 

Also present during the press conference was PYDC general manager Dr Gwee Sai Ling.
